Easy Raspberry Dish

A recipe from my grandmother: Melt a stick of butter in a medium oven dish.
Use a quart of fruit and heat it through but don't boil, I add just a little water to do this and sweeten the fruit to taste.
Mix a cup of flour, a cup of sugar and three teaspoons of baking powder, stir in a cup of milk, the batter will look like pancake batter.
Pour the batter into the dish with the melted butter, then spoon the hot fruit over the batter. Bake it 350 for twenty minutes. It's better warm with topping or ice cream. Or anyway.

My Raspberry Patch on Monday

My patch is now 33 years old. These taste really good on a snowy winter day on your toast--that is, if they last that long. I am making it the old-fashioned way this year so I don't have to put it in the freezer. Happy Monday, wish you all good things this week.

Sedums

This is my little sedum corner....the old lunch bucket belonged to John Roseberry, he was our neighbor in Paducah.
and this is the one I liked on the garden walk. I like any of the sedums especially Hens and Chicks. They are everywhere and I give them away by the bagfuls, even use them as mulch. Have a cool-er Friday, we're going to see UP today.

Trenton Garden Walk and Quilt Show

Barb and I picked this one as our favorite.
I liked this one especially because it was so delicate and all made of hand-dyed fabrics.
This one was made of recycled wools, skirts and such. I love the prim stars, don't you?
This was one of the "outdoor" ones. We had a tremendous rain on Friday and some of the ladies took their shoes off to walk (wade) through one of the gardens. Today was nice, no rain and a breeze, thank You. Everyone agreed that quilts and gardens are a great combination, can't wait for next year. Garden walk pictures are coming. I hope y'all like the quilt pictures.

More Quilts

All the quilts were just beautiful (more pictures follow). These were inside the Cultural Center but the gardens that were on the walk also had quilts displayed as well, some were made by the gardener themselves.

Snacking Peas and Corn Salad

These are my Sugar Snap peas which were planted on St. Patrick's Day, yes, it was very cold that day, but that's a date I can remember and it seems to be one that they like. You can often see people standing by them having a snack.

I didn't get a picture (or a taste) of Barbara's corn salad. It disappeared so fast and everyone said it was good, so I'm posting the recipe. I was so glad it was enjoyed.

Barbara's Corn Salad

4 cans drained corn
1 small green pepper, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
1 cup of shredded cheese (I used Mexican)
1 cup mayo

Stir and leave set in refrigerator overnight. Before serving, stir in one package of chili-cheese FRITOS.

From my Garden

this is called coreoposis overkill. I don't know what I was thinking. If you pass by Jughandle Road, Off Plymouth and Hines Drive,there is a whole field of these. That could be my garden if I don't do something.
The little tiny sweet peas are Electric Blue for pots from Renee's Gardens. They are sparse now but sweet and may have more blooms later. Happy Thursday.

Mammy's Slip

This is Mammy's slip that hangs in Kynda's bathroom, she made a corsage for it when her bathroom got all gussied up. She is thinking of changing the flowers but I like it like this. Does anyone care to give their opinion?

Ernest Markham clematis

Ernest is doing well this year. I tried to find out why it is named so, but seems the clematis took over and the person lost his importance, at least on google. Happy Sunday everyone.

Graye's Greenhouse

I thought I would just buzz in Graye's when I went to the craft mall, but the road was being paved and they wouldn't let me anywhere near. I really NEED to go there, altho I have more plants now than I can take care of. Anyway, this is a little sign they have on their table. I love it. I should make one for us all.

Favorite Iris

This one was my favorite this year, it was so big. And I don't remember who gave it to me or its name. I have eight different ones and they will only last a few more days and then I will have a ton of them to find homes for. I guess they liked our cooler than usual spring.

The Help

This is a really good story, I let everything go while I just sat and read. A first novel for her, too.
This from the author---"In The Help, there is one line that I truly prize, we are just two people, not that much separates us, Not nearly as much as I thought."
From me, I would give more thought to lines that are still drawn even today, see them and either cross or erase.

Still sewing.....

I feel selfish to be making frivolous stuff when times are so difficult for many. I have always tried to make affordable things and it is a pleasure to me.
This little note from a customer at the mall encourages me. It also reminds me to say thank you more often to others. And thank you, Jennifer, you made me happy.

My Pink Saturday

This is a rose that is growing in a vacant lot near me. It has been there a long time, gets no rose food, no pruning, and no attention except from me. I have rooted several cuttings the way Mammy did and persuaded PJ to take one from last fall,( and it has a bloom on it). Its fragrance is as wonderful as its blooms. Happy Saturday.

Rebecca likes posters. I'm not able to tell you who these people are, but I can say that if she took down most of them, she could replace them with her AWARD CERTIFICATES from school!

Artful Blogging Magazine

This magazine has gorgeous pictures and articles about professional artists and hardly any advertisement (except related stuff,) It is quarterly and is $14.99,( but you can use your Joann Fabrics coupon.) Compared to other publications, it's a good buy.
It was special because I wanted to read the feature on Little Brown Sparrow, I had ordered a necklace from her and there it was on Page 72. She has some really beautiful things on etsy. Her blog is www.sparrowsalvage.blogspot.com.

First Fruits

My little patch is paying off, the weather has been perfect. Rowe's Strawberry Farm will be open tomorrow at 7 a.m. and I hope their crops will be as nice as mine. My knees do not like to pick these days, but it's a thought that keeps coming to me. Happy Tuesday.

My friend, Joanne, who gave me this big pile of wonderful old crochet and lace, sent me this quote that her Dad used. So think of it next time you decide to "save" something that you think is just too nice to use.
