99 Years Young!
Jackie, Barb, Stella and I have been craft showing together for a very long time. Stella makes the most beautiful afghans, keeps Jackie running to Joann Fabrics for yarn. We loved her party today.

A gift in my mailbox......
from that sweet blogger friend of us all...Linda Parker. I had admired it a few weeks ago and she remembered. ...
This is where it will be found at my house, amongst the old books and pictures, near the old clock that refuses to keep time. Thank you so much Linda for this and all you do for all your blogger friends. This made me very happy.

I Love It.....
My neighbor Midge passed away this summer and her children gave me this cabinet for my kitchen. PJ and Jeff moved it for me and yesterday I filled it with things we have rescued. Ray found the glass bottles on his property at Jonesville, the large one is dated 1920.
A container from Joanne with a green top
A big green bowl from my neighbor Rose Fontana
A stack of Jewel Tea dishes that Jeff found under their porch when they lived in Melvindale
A breadbox that my grandmother used and an old sifter I can't seem to throw away.
Of course I really didn't have room for it in my little kitchen but some things we just make room for, and that doesn't just apply to furniture either.
I really miss Midge. I am probably the only person she forgave for interrupting her football games and lotto numbers. She loved to see Charlie too and he loved to go over there with me.
I will take good care of her cabinet. Happy Monday everyone.

Friends are Forever
I hope my blogger friends have not forgotten me during my week-long break. The grandkids and I had fun visiting last week, but now off to school again and back to work for me. Nice to see you this Monday morning.
Just one more of this beautiful flower. It's in my backyard but is so yellow you can see it from the next block over. I have kept it trimmed off on all sides and let it grow really tall. I like it much better that way. We had another frost this morning on all those clematis buds. Mammy would say it was blackberry winter, or dogwood winter, names for those freaky cold spells that keep coming back.I hope you didn't miss Gail's tutorial on pruning your hydrangea. Click on The Farm on my sidebar and look for the video, made by Kynda.

Craft Show at Bob Evans

Barb brought her latest creations to our breakfast at Bob Evans. These are little picture frames, with her iris folded hearts in the photo slot. I think they are just the cutest, and all of us want to buy one. She is working hard and hoping for a good spring show, altho all she would have to do is set up at Bob Evans and invite friends to breakfast.

More January Birthdays

Stella is only 97 today. We've talked about her before. She's Jackie's Mom and the lady who crochets all those beautiful afghans. I know she's having a fun birthday, going somewhere special. Happy birthday to Stella.
Here she is giving some tips to her customers.
AND....yesterday was Barb's birthday but our Betsy got first billing, but I know she understands. She's like that, our crafty lady, social event organizer, driver, resale guru and all around friend. She deserves a big shout-out, ( I always wanted to say that like they do on QVC) and I hope she has a wonderful year.

A Quilt for Haiti Lady
Years ago I used a clunky old quilting machine to put quilts together; it was certainly not a successful endeavor, as it was before all the nice machines we have today, so it was back-breaking work that I soon gave up. BUT, I did meet some awfully nice people along the way.
One of these was a lady whose son is a pastor of a church that has mission schools and churches in Haiti. When I spoke to her last week, she thought they would be all right because they are a distance away. I am hoping to hear from them this week.
Last year my friend Barb collected spoons for this lady to send in her shipments (yes, whole skids, she sends). Now in her eighties, she stays busy making quilts of any type of fabric and collecting clothes to send. The spoons? She asked for those because she says the children take the spoons because they have none at home.
She tells of desperate need, they have nothing, she says. And this was before the earthquake.
Not many of us can help in such a personal way, but it is the spirit in which the gift is given and people are being so kind to offer what they can. My favorite quote from this wonderful lady is "Peggy, nothing lasts except what you do for the Lord."
We won't tell Mrs. H. that we talked about her gifts this morning, she would be very embarrased. I hope you enjoyed hearing about her, and I hope your Monday is happy.

Lunch at Kate's
Jackie at Kate's.....It's a fun place to go especially with a friend. If you go on Saturday you have to wait in line for breakfast, but if you wait for a late lunch, your choice of homemade pies to-go is limited. Most everyone takes a pie home (see above). We also split a piece of lemon meringue.
It's on Huron River Drive in Flat Rock, call me anytime and we'll go.

Best Day of This Week Award

The best invitation of the week was from Virginia, she said come over and we will sort through some old sewing things...well, we had coffee and peach cobbler and lots of fun going through some old sewing boxes that had been passed to her. Some of the items we couldn't identify but these are some she shared with me, and the coolest thing of all, the big tin box to put them in. Thank you, thank you, Virginia.
