We only pose for treats....

G-dog, Lilla, Rosie and Joy get instructions from the photographer for their group picture. (Look at Kynda and Mark's beautiful yard too.)

Rosie and Joy were the visitors from Michigan. G-Dog and Lilla were host and hostess.

Saturday hello...

This is just to say hello this morning, it doesn't seem right somehow, if I don't. I am behind reading your posts but I will catch up soon.

Today is a sad day, my DIL Lisa's mom, Vera, has passed away . The visitation is today and I am making some chocolate crinkle cookies to take for the family. The recipe came to me from when I first began blogging, that friend doesn't blog any longer but I still think of her. Vera and I spent lots of time together watching Charlie's hockey. She was his biggest fan.

Everyone have a nice weekend. See you next week sometime.

Graduation Day for Tyler...

Proud Mom!!!
Happy Family!!

We are all so proud of Tyler and his honors, awards and that wonderful academic scholarship. We wouldn't want to leave out his time in the marching band . The music at the graduation was so beautiful and the choir sang Galinda and Elphaba's song from Wicked, Because I Knew You.

I had a good driver, granddaughter Rachel, and John Michael kept us informed when there were freeway construction barrels. It was so good to see Annette, Mike, Dylan and Tyler and spend some time at their home. It was a beautiful day. Thanks Tyler.

in May we....

enjoyed Jeff's play (he was the Reverend) Footloose. I went three times to see it. He was never better!

went to the plant exchange sponsored by the News Herald. This is Barb's hat, which got more attention than our plants.

This man always has the most plants and gives out advice as well. We didn't set up this time, just pulled a little wagon with our mostly give-away plants. Both of us have too much to be trading anyway.

loved my mothers day plant and PJ's nurses week plant from Kynda.....
and finished up the Reggie's Fruits and Vegetables story time at the library, sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation.

Sometimes during May I have tried to post and weird things happen and I give up. We will all get New Blogger Interface savvy hopefully soon. My garden and flowers are coming along nicely so I will practice posting with them and some books.

We are watching The Hatfields and McCoys on the History channel, and we are not alone, look at those ratings! Happy Wednesday everyone!

Decoration Day

Somewhere in Italy during World War II , my Uncle William managed to find a chicken . I'm sure it reminded him of home. And he did come home.

I just commented to another blogger that I am telling my age when I say we always called it Decoration Day. Remembering those who gave all.

Something to crochet....

This beautiful little coat was crocheted for a very beautiful little girl. ( Oh No, not by Me)

She has found something interesting on the bench. We see her on Sundays at church . Isn't she sweet!

I am working in my garden so I will have a lot to show you all when the time comes. I'll be around!

I was so sorry to hear of Dad's passing (Dad's Tomato Garden Journal). He was a wise and wonderful person and was one of my first blogs to read. Scripture and tomatoes, eagles, family and the coffee and tea he always had waiting for his readers. We're gonna miss him.

I hope you all have a nice weekend. We are going to see "Singing in the Rain" community theater and on Saturday, the annual garden exchange in Southgate also.

Goodbye Mr. Walnut Tree...

Yesterday at 9 o'clock big trucks began to park along my little block on Fleming Street, and lots of men with ladders, ropes and chain saws arrived at the house across the street.

Immediately, the neighbors (including me) began to come outside with their coffee cups. Story is, new man in brick house doesn't like walnuts falling on his truck so he asks man in white house to cut tree down.

Man in white house declines and man in brick house offers to have cut all the limbs that are over his yard. So the cutting began....

BUT, late in the afternoon, I realized that things must have changed, they were still cutting this big old walnut tree that has been there forever. About this time, I was beginning to feel betrayed.

I watched off and on all day. The loss of an old tree is sad to me. This one had seen so much in its time on Fleming Street, it could write a best seller. I especially remember the little handicapped girl who lived there and sat in its shade and sang so sweetly, and it has stood witness to my life since 1974, so I'm going to miss it.

Sorry to be long today. Hope your Friday and weekend are good and you don't lose any trees.

Happy Birthday Jeff and Ellie....

Jeff is smiling for his birthday pic and Jacob is home for Easter. Jeff still has some accessories that we hope he will soon be finished with, (like oxygen and hospital ids) but he is getting better and this is a wonderful birthday.

My friend Ellie also has a birthday today and she recently had some serious things happening with her also. While she was at work, she had a stroke. A guardian angel customer recognized what was happening and knew just what to do. She was in the hospital for a while but she is getting better and we are so thankful. The funny thing (well not really) is that both she and Jeff were at the same ER at the same time .

No more getting sick together guys...okay to have a birthday together though.

Good things.....

It is a joyous day to see Jeff.... much improved today... a day to be grateful to our loving God and every one of you who have shown concern . We will have a lot to tell him about everyone's kindnesses and the super care he has been given by the folks at Harper. We will also tell him how lucky he is to have PJ, she is his rock.

Thank you all so much and please continue to pray for him and all those who are in hospitals and those who are caring for them.

This was a good book that I read instead of sleeping. It's historical fiction, a prairie story in the late 1800's but it is no Little House on the Prairie. It's a first novel, and I really liked it. You might also.

Old Mr. Robin is back. I know what he is doing and although I welcome them back, this particular one will snip off every tulip bloom in my front yard. He is just casing the joint.

I've missed a lot of blog posts I know, hope to get caught up on all the news soon. Happy DST and Sunday evening.

Waiting.....

We loved "Big River" and its song, Waiting for the Light to Shine. That is what we are doing.

I wanted to say thank you for your prayers and kind emails. I don't have any news this morning. They are still testing and we are waiting for Jeff to get better and sing with us. Love you all.

Happy Birthday Kynda

I was on Facebook earlier trying to get her new profile picture but that is uncharted territory for this facebook dummie. I managed to retrieve this one but please don't ask me how.

Never mind my shortcomings, to me this wonderful daughter has not a one. She is beautiful inside and out. I hope she and Vee get to visit The Farm today and have CAKE, maybe even lunch at Morning Star. I know Mark will make this a special day for her too.
I love you all.

Mondays at the end of Fleming Street...

How's the baby sitting going? So far John Michael keeps me entertained. Potty Training is doing great, thanks to Nana Sue's week of intense potty training boot camp. And good weather, that we can go outside for a little bit when he is here.

It's more fun if you have a funny hat to wear.

And if you don't want to go inside, just lay on the ground, GG can't pick you up and you know it.

Finally in the house he picks his own time-out place. This won't do, it's too much fun.
Also I would have to keep getting bigger stools as he grows. Bye for now, going to take a nap.

Pillow

Things are good. In Springfield, Mark had surgery on his arm and is doing well and V had a birthday with flowers by Kynda and lemon cake . Here at home in Michigan, Rosie and Joy are coming to visit me this weekend, and this is a pillow that PJ will take to her friend.

Just little things today but they are the best kind. Happy Thursday.

Remembering Sara......

Sara came into my life about twenty five years ago when my daughter PJ and her son, Jeff married. She has been my friend and we are going to miss her. She loved her big family and her kitty and her many friends.

She was always painting....ceramics, pictures and clothing, jackets and Tees that we loved. The pictures are of a nativity set that she made. I think it is beautiful.

Tonight after everyone left for the visitation I unpacked it and set it up in PJ's antique cabinet. There was a star that I didn't know how to attach and some shepherds hooks that PJ will have to add. We will use something other than the doily but I wanted to post it tonight. A celebration of Sara's life will be this Saturday.

Love to you all, Peggy

Goldy Honey Bear Sunflower....

It seems to get bigger and brighter every day. It is larger than the "Teddy Bear" variety, flowers are nearly pollenless and it has a stalk as large as a hoe-handle so it doesn't fall over. I love it.

I bought these seed at English Gardens but you can look for them online. I also have some in pots that are beautiful also but a little smaller plant.

I'm cleaning up my garden now, it has been a strange year (my green beans took 90 days) and some things died out early in spite of a lot of rain. The squirrels are eating the best of my tomatoes since I didn't plant them any corn. Flowers are at their best, zinnias, sunflowers, four o'clocks and cosmos. How's your garden?

Jeff has his day planned with some knee surgery. We are counting on it going well and it helping him. A beautiful Tuesday to you.

(And thanks everyone for being on the look-out for my missing gnome!)
