Say Salsa
HOT SUMMER SALSA: 8 cups peeled, cored, chopped fresh tomatoes; l to 2 cups seeded and chopped fresh jalapeno peppers (use rubber gloves when doing this, also you can use more or less to taste);2 cups chopped onion; 8 cloves garlic, minced; 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro; 1 tablespoon salt; 3/4 cup cider vinegar and 1/4 cup fresh lime juice. Combine all ingredients in a large pot. Bring to a boil over medium high heat. Reduce heat and simmer about 10 minutes. Pour hot salsa into hot pint jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace. Seal jars with two-piece caps. Process in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Makes 4-5 pints. Or just sit down and eat it. Rebecca eats it on her scrambled eggs.
Sharing
These are ever-blooming iris, and I have some to share. A reminder that the Quilt and Craft Show at Dearborn First Methodist Church will be October 3 and 4, that's at Mason and Garrison in Dearborn (one block off Michigan Avenue). Handmade and antique quilts will fill the sanctuary and Salad Luncheon starts about 11:30. Artists Barbara , assisted by Kathy, and me too, and several others including jewelry, needlework and handmade items. Stop and see us, we will be downstairs. No admission to the craft show (10-7 on Friday and 10-4 on Saturday) the luncheon is $6.00 and admission to the quilt show is $3.00. Annnnnd while you are in Dearborn you can check out Fall into Dearborn festival on Saturday, music on the stage and Art on the Avenue (formerly held in June) and an auto show and farmer's market. In case I didn't get everything exactly right, go to www.cityofdearborn.org. Or, just come both days and stay all day. be there or be square.
