Heart and Flowers

Sometimes I feel sorry for that little shred of quilt that someone worked so hard to piece. This one called to me today, I hope she will be pleased with what I made from it.

This is my very favorite zinnia, a Pink Magellan, if you don't have them, they are worth all the work because you have to buy the seeds (from Park's) and grow your own.

Also, today the green bean fairy left a big bag of them in my front door. Guess we will be having beans.

PJ's Flowers and Jeff's Pond

The best garden walk of any you can take, is through your own hard-earned plantings. Actually you learn a bit more every time you walk through, which in my case is every half hour, so I should be really smart by now. Since PJ and Jeff don't have a blog I am posting their pictures. Look at the pineapple lily, it is just starting. Happy Thursday.

Belleville Garden Walk

I picked this as most interesting ....inside the little garden house was the framed quilt which told the history of this family. They also had a catalpa tree which we don't see very often here in Michigan.

Love Lies Bleeding

I have a feeling that this plant is just getting started. It may be scary before the season is over.
I have never tried to grow it before. Graye's Greenhouse had some plants this year and I always wanted to try it. I like Graye's because they have plants that are not run-of-the-mill. Like I asked for some petunias this year and she said we didn't plant them because everybody has them. Happy Saturday.

Smarty Tomatoes

I wanted to try a new tomato, these are from seed that I ordered. There are really a lot of them! I wonder why they are called "Smarty".

The Last Day for Raspberries

Today is surely the last day I will pick raspberries from my little patch. (this year).

They began really early and have never before lasted until July 20. I remember this date because it is my Dad's birthday. Had he lived he would be 99 today. I miss him always and wish everyone could have known him. I know he would have loved to help me pick, as he always strung the beans with no complaining.

I was visiting www.inthissmallhouse.blogspot.com, and this is her comment on the raspberry patch....."no one wants to pick raspberries, so there you are, alone in the quiet with a moment to think, to pray, and even listen." I never pick that I don't think this very thing, I was glad Sandra spelled it out for me to remember.

So one last remark about the berries, I made jam, I made freezer jam and many pies and even tried some new recipes, but my favorite was a big ol cobbler that we took to Blessed Hope Church for their dinner, everyone liked it with ice cream and Charlie got to serve it!

Art on Saturday

This is a display outside of Flea Market to Fabulous in Springfield. When we there, the store was closed, saving us money.
This is a chair made by my neighbor, Thomas. He makes rustic furniture in his spare time, he is a construction worker/artist and a nice neighbor.

Yard Sale treasure

I brought this cute little table and chairs for dolls home from my neighbor's garage sale. I thought I would paint it and put it in my booth at the Town Peddler. However, Max, my summer cat, really likes it and has claimed it as his. Maybe he will tire of it soon.

Even more from The Farm

Something a little more interesting than rocks.
Like any good gardener, she is always expanding. This part was new to me.
The website is www.visit-thefarm.com.

The Mice Girls

I don't remember planting these, maybe the mice did it.

You can't see them but these are sitting in an old zinc lid, which are hard to find. I tried them sitting in a little can but no one liked them, guess it's lid karma.

Kynda's Garden

"They say music heals; well, so does gardening. It crosses all lines. Doesn't matter where you live, who your mama was, what church you go to---we gardeners are a tribe. Our gardens give us physical beauty, but they also connect us to our past, root us in the present, and give wonderful opportunities to share with other people." A quote from Dr. Dirt, Edwards, Mississippi

The Plant with No Name

This is how it starts out, it looks like a brass knob, it is about 3 feet tall.
This is a little later, now it looks like a pineapple. Barb gave it to me but can't remember its name. It is an interesting plant.

New Girls

I really am still working, but it is hard to go from garden to basement workplace.
This was Charlie's pick. We liked their noses and big smiles.

This is a weekend of celebration, and we should. Also keep in your heart the missing American soldier in Afganistan. According to USA today he is missing from the Mullakheil area of eastern Paktika province.
