Red Roses....

on fabric will last a long time. Angel design from an old Patrice pattern, which you might find by chance on ebay if you want to make one. The crochet at the hem was from an old pillowcase and it is little bells, just beautifully done.

We are waiting for a snow that is being described as "Historical" by the news media. I'll let you know what that means when I find out. Happy Monday.

Works of heart.....

I ordered this pattern from www.theoldecountrycupboard.com. I hope I can make it look exactly like hers. I love Sandy's patterns.

Say a little prayer for my pastor Dave who is having surgery on his hand today.

"He who works with his hands is a laborer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands, and his head, and his heart is an artist."
St. Francis of Assisi quote.

That last one about the artist is Dave. And Sandy too! Happy Tuesday everyone.

Valentine Girls

Nicole's Raggedy Old Annies design (the nurse one). In polka dots!
Just a plot pattern that has pieces that are easy and I like. Both these girls already have homes . I have one more valentine wreath and an Uncle Sam in blue before I take a break.

I'm actually going outside today and did yesterday for church. I am getting used to it and not going to complain anymore. It is so much more serious in other parts of the world. I do like watching the weather though and hearing from you all in other areas about yours. When Rebecca was a toddler, all she watched was the Weather Channel and she has grown up to be one smart young lady. Happy Monday.

Robert E. Lee's Prayer

  • Robert E. Lee's Prayer

"Help me to be, to think, to act what is right because it is right; make me truthful, honest, and honorable in all things; make me intellectually honest for the sake of right and honor and without thought of reward to me." From the Truman Library. This Robert E. Lee prayer was memorized by Harry Truman, and Used by Truman throughout his life.

Tennessee Ridge pattern sale....

If you would like some new patterns be sure to check out the e-pattern sale on www.tennesseeridgeprimitives.com. It's a good one.

The little girl above is made from a recent one. She was so easy to make.

Amy thinks I am working night and day but not really...I sew a little, stuff a little and make a few clothes, then one day I put them all together and ouila!

Go outside this morning and if your nose and face and feet don't freeze, then you are not in Michigan! Have a nice day wherever you are!

Sheila's Strangers

Another pattern maker I have lost track of is Sheila's Strangers. Last time I had word of her was when she moved from Alaska to UAE. I still enjoy using her patterns and would love to hear from her and her family.

This one is Queasey Cat and Andy. Her names for her strangers were a hoot.

It is bitterly cold here in Michigan and the sun is shining like a summer day. It may fool some into venturing out, but not me. I am home to stay today. Stay warm.

Soup and Sandwich Night at Blessed Hope..

Third Wednesday of every month our church, Living Water, serves a meal at Blessed Hope church. Many come who are in need of a hot meal and they are always so appreciative.

Last night, Suzie G. made grilled cheese in the tiny little kitchen. There was split pea, tomato and vegetable soup and some homemade brownies too. My neighbor gave me a four pound can of tuna and I made some tuna salad. I am giving account of it because we might want to do it again.

I used a dozen boiled eggs, a jar of Hellmann's mayo, quart size, a 16 oz. jar of sweet pickles and about a half of a large bunch of celery. We used two loaves of bread and had just a little left over.

One of the gentlemen asks me every time to make something he can eat, with no salt or sugar and maybe some chicken. I promised to keep him in mind and was thinking maybe I could make something with my Bouquet Garni from The Farm, as it has no salt. If you know of a simple dish like this, please let me know.

It's a little thing, this one evening out of a whole month, but hard to say who gets most blessed by it. Happy Thursday everyone.

Valentine Hearts

I found some paper roses in an old sewing box and the rose fabric is from Sew What in Wyandotte. My little booth at Town Peddler has new dolls and these hearts to decorate it for Valentine's Day. The twigs are called dragon vine or angel vine, whichever you prefer.

Happy Wednesday!

Charlie and his manager

Five games in four days and I only missed one. Things I have decided, I don't like games that end in shoot-outs, and you have to wash your hands in extremely cold water.

Now back to regular life, and I hear Regis is retiring from his morning show. I thought he and I had an agreement to keep working, but I'm sure his work is harder, not to mention a billion times more lucrative.

I have valentines for tomorrow so please try to check back. Happy Tuesday to ya!

Love is something we learn by heart.

Cupcake

Her blouse fabric had cupcakes on it and it probably shouldn't have been tea-dyed. I find that the quilt shop fabrics take less of it, perhaps because of the thread count?

I used the Olde Toys pattern by Sweet Meadows , finished up her and worked on a cat the rest of my day inside.

As predicted, Walker, my Texas Ranger cat, did sneak out in the deep snow. I think he thought he would just walk across the top of the drifts. I let him have at it until he looked like he had had enough. He was mad as a wet hen the rest of the day.

Happy Thursday everyone!

Fabric with Hearts....

Good morning everyone! Thank you so much for liking my cat! I always appreciate comments ! My own cat Walker is looking out at the snow this morning, waiting to sneak out when the door opens.

I don't remember the name of this fabric, I ordered it from Heart of Dixie quilt shop and have saved it, as we do when we like fabric so much. To get this dress and pillow, I had to do some piecing but it worked out well and I actually had a shred of it left about an eighth of an inch wide and about three inches long and a few strings .

This is a Sweet Meadows pattern. It's called Olde Toys. The head is sewn on separately, which gives her a little fat chin.

If you day is snowy, I hope it is the good kind. Be safe on the roads. Happy Wednesday.

Snow for most all

Lots of you are talking about snow, looks like it is widespread but welcomed by most everyone.

Something pretty bad is wrong with my scanner (as usual). It now includes a big black line. This is Becca several snow-seasons ago and here are some snowmanisms for you.

"Fallen snow is free art supplies.

Nobody makes a snowman against his will.

The snowman's kryptonite is the sun.

The Taliban outlawed the snowman.

He is the essence of folk art, a creation of whim."

From "History of the Snowman". A good book.

Shopping at Sew What Quilt Shop

Jackie and I really liked these handbags....Suppose we could make one?

All colors and sizes...do I really want to give up my Miche?

The store is beautiful. They are restocking the fabrics and on the right is the rack where I buy my hand-dyed buttons that I use for my Raggedy Ann eyes. They have buttons galore!

The store is at 144 Sycamore, Wyandotte, Michigan.

Tennessee Ridge pattern..

No one seems to be sewing, including myself. And I made this one last month so she doesn't count. Motivation needed.

Ready?

I walked out this morning and it's there waiting for me. No snow at all..
My favorite so far, now if I can figure out how to put these two together.

If you like a good story to read with your morning coffee, go to Roger Eberts blog, here.
We are seeing lots of movies, some good, some not so, favorite so far of course is True Grit. Altho, I had hoped Kevin Costner would get a shot at playing Rooster, I guess Jeff Bridges was already in the mode for it. And what do I know, anyway.

We are going to have a good year, Barb and I decided on the phone last night, we will be kinder, stronger and wiser. Yea!
