This is my first tomato, Sweetie, that I bought at Graye's. I had to pick it early to beat the squirrels to it, or that's my excuse anyway.

Dimples

If you would like to look like Mario Lopez (I don't), you can have Dimpleplasty. The cost is $2000 per one dimple. I was just thinking how sweet is this little hand that God has blessed with four of them and for free.

Annie from Olde Toys Pattern

In every package of the hand-dyed black buttons, there is a little red heart button. I'm going to try to use them and pass them on. This one is made from a Sweet Meadows Farm pattern, Olde Toys. There is also a cute little bear pattern to go with.

This is my day to read Pooh books and color with John Michael. On Monday, we watched Mr. Rogers and blew bubbles. It's all in a day's work.

Happy Wednesday. We had a storm yesterday with NO damages reported. Love that kind with lots of rain mostly. The garden is dripping this morning and all the plants look happy.

A Thotful Spot

I've been reading Pooh books again. My little garden is my thotful spot. There I go with my second cup of coffee every morning, just thinking about everyone, and always and especially those who are far away from home.

Nate Henn was one of those. I didn't know about him until Sunday when he was killed in the Uganda bombing. Now, reading about him and his service as a volunteer, he is much in my thoughts. And his family, and I read this morning that his brother has been injured in a plane crash en route to be with them.

I hope you have a thotful spot. If not, try to find one. They are a great comfort.

A new Witch and quirks in my garden...

I have always planted corn in my garden. Every year I get to cook about 6 pieces and the squirrels destroy the rest of it, then I am stuck with disposing of the stalks and by that time it is 95 degrees. This year I have 5 (five) stalks of corn just so I can say I have corn in my garden. The battle is on but I have never yet won against the squirrels.

At the base of the corn, I planted some Jacob's cattle beans that Barb picked up for me at a craft show. They are new to me.

I think stakes from Lowes are kinda boring so I use whatever comes along. I have fences made from sticks too. These are McCauslen green beans.


ONE giant beet is in my garden. I love to plant Bull's Blood beets but last year they went begging and were left over in the spring for me to dispose of. I can only eat so many of them. I won't eat this one, it is for decoration.
A pumpkin...I don't have a clue as to what kind. It is growing straight up through the tomato cage. Very strange.
Yes, I know, it's too early for Halloween, but PJ found some great fabrics for me to use. Some of them are actually made in USA! This gal is made from a pattern by Rustic Raggedys. I went online to see if she is still making patterns, but I didn't find her anywhere. I changed it some, because I couldn't get the apron right. The apron has a pumpkin head bib but I gave up on it. If you have news of Rustic Raggedys, please drop me a line.

If you needed it, I hope you got a good rain like we did. It makes the garden grow.

Hearing Elvis sing.....

My garden sings on its own these hot summer days, neighbors are partying and fireworks are better here than downtown. When I spoke of hearing Elvis singing out there, it turned out to be another bad party impersonator two doors down from me.

I actually did see Elvis once, when I worked in downtown Memphis. He was very young and so was I. I didn't really know who he was, he was kinda scraggly lookin', but the girls I worked with pointed him out to me. They were following him around on the weekends, hearing his music.

He was going into the Ellis Auditorium, where I waited for the bus every day. I never saw him after that or since then, although many claim that they have.

This made me think of Johnny Carson's famous quote, if life were fair, Elvis would be alive and all the impersonators would be dead. I think to be kinder, we should change that last word to "unemployed".

Anyway, Elvis will always sing to me, an old hymn or a hound-dog song, whatever he picks out. Happy July 5th. I hope you have today off from work.

Plants that are new to my Garden.....

This plant is really pretty but not too photogenic. It has all stages of the blooms in this picture (the last stage is the round larger one). It is a coneflower called Coconut Lime.

This one is called "Sweetie". I am a pushover when it comes to cute tomato names so I had to try one. I picked it up at Graye's Greenhouse and haven't seen it for sale at any other garden centers. I also have some "Sweet Baby Girl" tomato plants, that everyone likes. My old reliables are Jetstars. They are sweet too.

It's been a nice Saturday in Michigan. My neighbors are having a party and I thought I heard Elvis singing when I was out in the garden. Maybe I should check it out. Happy Saturday night everyone.
