larkspur, fennel, red giant mustard, wire vine, basket flower, yarrow, prairie sun, all crammed together is a bouquet?
Jordan will be traveling the next few days (grandson) from Nevada to Michigan. Driving! Say a little prayer. He has been living there a year since his Army days. It was also extreme temperatures over there in Iraq, so we trust also again.
Happy Sunday morning, the Lord is in His Holy Temple, let all the earth keep silence before Him.
...pictures of children and things I make for those of us who never grow up, and plants I grow in my little garden......

Tuesday garden
Before the rain this morning, I found this dude, I don't know anything about insects, I am guessing some kind of dragonfly. He is interesting, very delicate but a bit gaudy about the body.
I always liked this Heritage David Austin rose, but it soon was drooping with blooms, so I found a straight cane and trimmed off everything low. I really like it this way.
It's going to be a good day, God is doing the watering for me. Love to all.

Greens
I think this is only ornamental, giant red mustard, however looks purple to me.
Greens at the new Whole Foods in downtown Detroit. Lots of WHOLEsome food there and interesting people to watch and talk to, as everyone was very friendly!
MY FAVORITE Recipe for Wilting Greens is from Barbara Damrosch, of John Scheepers Seeds.
Fry two slices of bacon and discard the grease except for 1 Tablespoon. Keep the pan hot and add 2 T. olive oil, 1 T. balsamic vinegar, 1 T. honey and 1/4 t. of dry mustard if you have it. Swirl it around and pour over greens.
Mammy used just bacon grease over leaf lettuce but I think she would have liked Barbara's recipe.
Thanks everyone for visiting and commenting, it is like having old friends come by. Happy Monday morning.

Proven Winners Gardens in Carleton, Michigan is a mass of color. Pictures never do it justice. I don't know those goofy people trying out the planter hats.
Most of the plants we buy at local markets come from this Proven Winners grower. We noticed this year that those massive beds of blooms are made up of pots of flowers. Of course they have drip irrigation with lots of plant food I am sure. In summer, if you are in this area, don't miss seeing it. You might catch a wedding or photo shoot going on, but usually it is quiet and you can sit in the swing and just look. Happy Friday to all.

My crop of strawberries, 2013
I was going to keep count of how many this year, but have lost it. Too busy ...
These pictures are same bowls but different strawberries. My patch is about 10 X 12 I would say. No pesticides or fertilizers this year, they were not so good last year so I just lawn-mowed them down in July. They didn't even get their winter straw, because I thought they were a lost cause.
What did I know.
Happy Thursday to all my friends. I wish you strawberries too.

Ernest is back, and so am I....
The first blog post for me was an Ernest Markham picture. It is my blog totem.
The garden is planted, I had a wonderful birthday and a visit from Kynda at our special host and hostess extra-ordinaires, Jeff and PJ's . Visits and cards and phone calls, it was just super. And did I say "cake", make that TWO.
The strawberries are ripe and today PJ and I are making strawberry shortcake to take to Blessed Hope . A post about strawberries is next I think. Love to all.
