Things that make you smile
I felt industrious this week and made paw pads for the fuzzy guy.
The tulips never get any endeavor on my part yet they bloom as if I were a Master Gardener.

Quilt Show Today
Maxwell enjoys his flower quilt.
A book which was picked for me by my nice librarian. The story of Joanna, just prior to the Civil War, who was recaptured on her way North to freedom, and her quilt that mapped that journey. A good book for anyone who appreciates the significance of quilts in American history, or just likes quilts.
The old quilt in the background was a rescued one, mildewed and ratty, from a sale in Waltz, Mi. Altho the flowers are worn away (and the baskets) you can still see the lovely design outline and the beautiful feather stitching is still perfect. I thought it deserved a life, so here it is and it smiles for me.

It was Free!
I only wanted a typewriter stand, but the typewriter came with the deal.
It has a little metal plate on the front of it that says "Bill Palmer, The Typewriter Man" with his phone number in Toledo, Ohio. I know one thing about Mr. Palmer, he earned his money lugging things like this around, it weighs a ton, must be made of iron.
If you are laughing at my acquisition, go to ebay or etsy and check out the jewelry being made with old typewriter keys. It's anybody's guess what its future will be now that it has a new home. It may just sit somewhere and look.......pretty!

GI Jor
The picture is of Jordan's GI Joe collection, now we are off to see his Turning Blue ceremony and graduation from Army Basic Training at Fort Benning. Time flies!
We are hoping for some seventy degree weather while we are there and some good southern food, and we're happy he will have some time to spend at home. See you next week.

An unexpected surprise
Happy Easter
This is a photo made on an Easter Sunday during World War II at Arcadia Methodist Church in Paducah, Kentucky. The pastor in the picture is Warren Phillips.
Come in with me and sit on the old hard pew by the old coal stove....
Listen to the sermon and hear the prayers that they said.....
Think of those who sacrificed during these years, and keep in your heart those who this day are serving and protecting us.
Let us live, as they, humbly but creatively, loving and praying for each other.
He is Risen! Happy Easter, everyone. Love the church you attend today, and cherish the framework given us by the little primitive churches like Arcadia Methodist in Paducah, Kentucky.

Best Day of This Week Award
The best invitation of the week was from Virginia, she said come over and we will sort through some old sewing things...well, we had coffee and peach cobbler and lots of fun going through some old sewing boxes that had been passed to her. Some of the items we couldn't identify but these are some she shared with me, and the coolest thing of all, the big tin box to put them in. Thank you, thank you, Virginia.

A Recipe from Lenny Taylor, Keeper of the Golden Ladle
While I was looking for a sock monkey pattern, I happened on this wonderful soup recipe. I have received permission to share it with you, it is called Willy Strange's Good Soup and this is Mr. Taylor's introduction to the recipe.
"Several years ago, our church congregation did a community service project and cleaned up an overgrown cemetary in Rockwall, Texas. The caretaker, an elderly woman, couldn't afford to pay for our services but gave us something much better. This recipe came from her. It was an instant hit with everyone who took a copy, and has continued to be a family favorite which we share with our special friends. I've decided that it's just too good to keep under wraps. So sometime when you need to make a main-dish in just 10-15 minutes, give this a try. You Won't be disappointed."
Ingredients:
* 2 cans Campbell's Minestrone soup
* 1 can Ranch Style beans *
* 1 can Rotel diced tomatoes (Mild or hot - you choose) *
* 2 cans water
* ¼ cup catsup
* 1 lb. hamburger
* 1 small diced onion
* * Rotel and Ranch Style are brand name products of ConAgra Foods. Their web site has a search feature to help you find a retailer near you that carries these two products. It's worth your time to find them.
Preparation:
Sauté the diced onion in a dutch oven. Add the hamburger and brown. Drain off the excess fat. Add the remaining ingredients, heat and serve.

The Morning Paper
A Free Press was on my porch for the first time this week. You would have thought it was the Prize Patrol!
For those of you out of the Detroit area, we now can buy a newsstand copy every day but home delivery is only Thursday, Friday and Sunday. We can go online and read the digital version and that would be okay if I could lug my big old computer out to the garden where I have my morning coffee.
Most of us don't like it at all, but things change and I hear other big city newspapers are watching to see how this works out for us.
I don't like being deprived of something I enjoy but if it would create some jobs, I would happily go along. I am afraid it is quite the opposite.
With that in mind, I will shut up and pay the bill, if only for the sake of those who are still employed by the News and Free Press, and I hope my carrier is one of them.
