Last week Lisa took me to Glei's Orchard in Hillsdale. I bought some Honey Crisps, a large bag of Spys, but these are my favorites. They are Mutsu/Shizuka, much better than Granny Smiths.

Also bought these pears and wish I could make some preserves like Mammy made. Does anyone make pear preserves anymore?
I had in mind to make something with apples for Blessed Hope tomorrow. PJ came up with this recipe for me. I tried it out last night and it's very good (and easy).
Super Duper Easy Apple Cake
1 yellow cake mix
1 T. ground cinnamon
1 t. vanilla
2 large apples, peeled, cored and finely diced (recipe calls for Granny Smith)
Make the cake mix according to the box directions, add the cinnamon and vanilla, and fold in the apples. Use a 10 inch tube pan and bake in a preheated 350 oven for 45-55 minutes. You can say it's homemade!
