My favorite Apple...

Last week Lisa took me to Glei's Orchard in Hillsdale. I bought some Honey Crisps, a large bag of Spys, but these are my favorites. They are Mutsu/Shizuka, much better than Granny Smiths.
Also bought these pears and wish I could make some preserves like Mammy made. Does anyone make pear preserves anymore?

I had in mind to make something with apples for Blessed Hope tomorrow. PJ came up with this recipe for me. I tried it out last night and it's very good (and easy).

Super Duper Easy Apple Cake

1 yellow cake mix
1 T. ground cinnamon
1 t. vanilla
2 large apples, peeled, cored and finely diced (recipe calls for Granny Smith)

Make the cake mix according to the box directions, add the cinnamon and vanilla, and fold in the apples. Use a 10 inch tube pan and bake in a preheated 350 oven for 45-55 minutes. You can say it's homemade!

I've had the Honey Crisp apples and loved them but haven't heard of the other. I'll have to look for them as I love granny smith apples too and if they are better, that has to be really good. Apples are so good in so many things. I've copied the recipe for the cake. It sounds so easy and good. Hope your Tuesday is a terrific one!

I make pear relish and pear preserves..here in South GA we have a Sand Pear, which is a very very firm pear..I like to use this type because it does not get "mushy" during the process.

Never heard of your favorite apple - gotta say, Honey Crisps are mine....our orchards are long time closed up....Those pears look delicious - they're one of my favorite fruit. Never heard of pear preserves either - but we do make pear butter which I assume is similar. Hope you had a wonderful day! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Those apples are the ultimate flavor of fall I think. Especially for up north where you are and where I used to live (Maine). I think people still make pear preserves. I haven't but would if I had a pear source perhaps.

Your sculpey ornaments look great. What a nice display at your craft fair. I hope you did well.

I love apples and this cake sounds delicious, too. My granny made pear preserves when I was little and they were so good on her biscuits.

Thanks for your comment/visit on my blog. We found some replacement crystal at an antique store in SC a few years ago and were able to replace a few pieces mama had broken over the years. I also had a friend to give me the Navarre/Fostoria cream and sugar. I really treasure them.

Wishing you a restful night.
