Button Birdhouse Rescue...

Well, it was $1.91 at the Thrift Store. Someone did a lot of work on it and I couldn't leave it sitting there so lonely.

Only problem was I had to stand in line to buy it and people kept looking at it and commenting. I offered it to one little girl who really liked it but her Mom said no. She was so cute I would have bought it for her, knowing that she would love it.

Do you look in other people's carts at the Thrift Store?

This is the Punkin Pal #155 pattern from Crows Roost Prims. I asked Renee if it would be all right with her if I made it into snowmen, as I had six that I didn't get to finish.

Great Pumpkin Carving Party

This year was my first visit to Gabe and Val's pumpkin carving party. Here they are waiting to be judged.
First, you pick one from the big pile.

Moms help out.....
and some Dads make their own. It was fun. Lots of children, food and friends.

Needlework Rescue....

"Did I do good?" she asked. Did she ever..aren't these beautiful.....
This one even has tatting on the edges in verigated colors.....tatting is a rare find.
And this one knew I had a new table that would need this. Barb keeps us all in mind when she shops, we are lucky to have her. She has a great eye for just the right thing.

Looks like rain this morning in Michigan. We had a big frost this week but now rain and warmer temps. Time to finish up outside. Happy Saturday.

Two New Santas..

These two are made from patterns I have had many years by Leah Smith of Country Cupboard. If anyone knows of her, please drop me an email.

Barb came by with some vintage pieces which I will show you when I get them touched up. They are really beautiful. Her comment on the Santa was "he looks like he's been working out."

Candy, Old recipie and new...

This is a little candy treat that someone made for the quilt show. I thought about making some for Blessed Hope, but nah, too fussy and decided instead to make fudge. Here's my recipe from the church cookbook in Lexington that Kynda gave me.

Velveeta Fudge

1 pound of margarine
1 pound of Velveeta cheese
4 pounds of powdered sugar
1 cup of cocoa
1 Tablespoon of vanilla and nuts if you wish.

In a saucepan, melt the margarine and cheese. Sift the cocoa and sugar , add it to the margarine-cheese mixture, add vanilla. Pour it out and it's fudge. Makes 6 1/2 pounds, is never fail and cheaper than any other fudge.

We had about 40 at dinner last night. Val made some really good pasta dishes and we had a huge salad. And fudge.

My "new" table.....

Sometimes little quaint places can get you in big trouble......
they beckon us and draw us in.......
This is my "new" old table from J & L Antiques......
They have four buildings with really nice things, reasonable priced. 8207 N. Dixie Highway, Newport, Michigan. www.jlantiques.com.

They took the table apart for me, loaded it in the van, and loaned me a blanket for packing.

But the nicest thing was today in the mail I received a hand-written thank you note from owners, Wendy, Josephine and Larry.

You don't get that from Art Van.

Old Song Book

I remember that they were never called "hymnals". Open up your "song books" to page 92, the "song leader" (as opposed to "choir director") would say.

This book was given to my grandmother's nephew in October of 1933. That would have been my great-grandmother, Belle Pate. How it survived the flood of 1937 I can't imagine. I would love to know that story.

The price of the book was thirty cents. It is titled "The Revival No. 3" by Charlie D. Tillman, suitable for all kinds of religious meetings, half a million preceding numbers now in use. Atlanta, Cincinnati and Kansas City.



This morning I took a page from it and made this little framed collection. I can imagine my folks singing this "song".

The beautiful little trim on the left side came from Forget-Me-Not Thrift Store in Lincoln Park. She knows exactly what I like. Don't miss her store if you live in the area. Near Outer Drive on Fort Street.

Seeing Elvis

A road trip down Newport way a few Saturdays ago included Motor City Antiques Mall on Telegraph just past Flat Rock. These are only a few of our Elvis sightings.

Pumpkin Girls

I spoke to a customer at Town Peddler. She said she was buying her Christmas things before the snow flies. These girls are my last two Halloween dolls.

I'm up early and have already read the Free Press. Some good things have happened this week. Chi, Chi, Chi, le, le, le... wasn't that just great? I hope your Friday is good.

Last of the Garden

Only 67 jars this year. If you want to make some, my recipe is on the blog. Search "salsa". I buy the ingredients for my salsa at Dearborn Farm Market but it is getting late and the tomatoes are not as good. August is a good time to make salsa.
These are holding up well, as we have not had a frost.
Monkshood is tall, about 6 feet and all parts of the plant are poisonous. The squirrels leave this one alone.
Chocolate Joe Pye is best in October.
And for next year, I want to grow these. They are "Easter Egg" radishes. All colors from the same packet of seeds. John Michael and I ate these for lunch, with ranch dressing. Happy Thursday evening.

Farmers Market

Huge cookies from the Traffic Jam....


Mason and Garrison on Fridays in Dearborn until 1 oclock. Also some art and community services set-up.

We have an abundance of good food and clean water for which we are thankful this second Sunday in October. And we have great weather today, I hope you have the same.

Every one deserved a picture but there were so many it was hard to take it all in. Barb is taking care of my table today so I can be with the visiting grandsons, Jacob and Jordan.
This was a memorial poster for one of the church quilters that I remember.
This one would have been my mother (Emma's) favorite.
And one of these would have been Mammy's favorite.
Walking into the sanctuary...also there were two other sections also. They awarded Best of Show in several categories, which were beautiful, but my favorites are always the time-worn ones of our grandmothers and beyond. Because they have a story, of course.

She saw me before I saw her. Is it true they have five eyes and a head that swivels 180 degrees?

Last year there were lots of grasshoppers in my garden but I haven't seen any this year. Probably due to her clan. I stopped my work and watched back for a while. I love to watch them move. I may have only two eyes but they are really good, thanks to cataract surgery and new glasses. So I guess we are even, I have four eyes and a camera.


We're going to the quilt show today so I will have lots of pictures next week. Happy Friday.

Painted Gourds

I have never painted a gourd, but it looks like fun. I don't have the name of the painter of these, except she was a family member who has since passed. I don't think they were for sale. If they were mine, they wouldn't be either.
Mr. Mac Intosh was squashed.
Our apples did complain---- Mr. Jud McClain.

The quilt show is tomorrow, I have been there every year except for one for twenty five plus years. I miss Grace Liddy who passed away a couple of years ago. She always told me every year " Now I won't be able to do this next year". But she was always there like the good Methodist Woman she was. She was in her nineties when she died.

I hope your week has been good, mine has....18 jars of salsa yesterday and Jeff trimmed my scraggly front yard trees. Life is good.

Prices Orchard in Newport

I'm making two posts this morning and have more for tomorrow with pictures I made at the family orchard we found on Saturday. It is a family endeavor and baked goods and jams and jellies by a neighbor. Tomorrow I will show you the painted gourds which were really unique. They have wagon rides also. A nice place to take your family....
